France-based Malawian women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga has scaled the summit of the French Women’s top-flight league scorers’ chart for the first time after scoring a brace against Bordeaux on Saturday.

The Scorchers captain came from the bench late in the second half to score twice as PSG came out 8-1 winners to take her tally to nine goals.

Tabitha: Two goals in 20 minutes was impressive

She is tied with Lyon’s Ada Hegerberg.

The Malawi National Women’s Football Team star scored the sixth and eighth for PSG after replacing Ramona Buchanan 20 minutes to full time.

She is second on assists with six, two short of Dian Kadidiato of Lyon.

Despite the win, PSG are still second in the 12-team league with 31 points from 11 matches, five short of leaders Lyon while Paris FC are third with 25 points.

In an interview on Sunday, Tabitha said she was happy to step off the bench and score two goals.

“I think two goals in 20 minutes was impressive. It’s good that we are closing in on the leaders,” she said.

On the feeling  to top the scorers’ chart for the first time, the striker, who is on a season-long loan from Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan Jiangda, said: “It’s a great feeling and I hope I can keep up the momentum.”

Tabitha is on course to win the golden boot consecutively in another European top league following her feat in Italy where she emerged top scorer while with Inter Milan last year to become the first African to achieve that feat.
